Community cleans Alberton Dam

Community members showed up at Alberton Dam in their numbers to participate in a clean-up project.

In welcoming the new month, young and old rolled up their sleeves to upkeep Alberton Dam on September 2.

Spearheading the initiative was resident Taylor van Loggerenberg. The project aimed to clean up the dam and make it cleaner for furry friends.

“The whole idea behind the initiative was getting it clean for the animals and as a way to get more people to come out and spend more time at the dam. I was coming here frequently and thought the animals needed a cleaner space. We wanted to make this place more homely for everyone,” explained Van Loggerenberg.

She said they are working on getting sponsors to redo the signage board and repaint the kiddies’ play area.
During the clean-up, they also gave food to animals at the dam.

Van Loggerenberg thanked all the sponsors involved, including SOG Security, Meat World Verwoerdpark, Oasis Water, individual volunteers, PICUP, Doxa Deo Meyersdal, and The Reptile Haven.

Ward 37 Clr Ivan Naidoo said the organisers wanted to make this initiative an ongoing project, depending on funding and volunteers. Local beauty Bronwyn-Lee Peyper of the Mr and Miss Alberton pageant was also in attendance.
