Ekurhuleni vows to demolish the Alberton CBD bus terminus by September

The City of Ekurhuleni was meant to level the Alberton CBD bus terminus building by June of last year, but as of the time of this writing, it has still not been done.

A new promise from the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) to demolish the Alberton CBD bus terminus has come forward.

According to the CoE, they will demolish the terminus by the end of September this year.

The city has failed to honour previous promises to have the terminus demolished.

According to the spokesperson of the city, Zweli Dlamini, the Real Estate Department in July 2022 obtained a demolition permit for the terminus. Due to budget cuts, they postponed the project and rolled it over to the 2023/24 financial year.

“Now that the new budget has been allocated, the city commits to demolish the building before the end of September,” Dlamini said.

The terminus is a source of concern for the citizens of Alberton since it has become home to individuals who could endanger their safety and has degraded into an eyesore.

The city initially intended to house a licensing drive-through in this facility to relieve pressure on the Alrode Licensing Department.
