Alberton CBD bus terminus still a concern for locals

The bus terminus building in the Alberton CBD has not been demolished as promised by the CoE, even though the deadline was last month.

The CoE failed to honour its promise to demolish the Alberton CBD bus terminus.

On June 12, the city responded to the Alberton Record’s queries about the long-awaited demolition of the Alberton CBD bus terminus supposed to be levelled by no later than July.

Zweli Dlamini, the spokesman for the CoE, said the terminus was scheduled for demolition in July and that the pertinent department and officials had signed the necessary paperwork.

“We have received the demolition permit and will shortly be advertising a notice of the demolition,” Dlamini said.

He had earlier stated that the building would be taken down by no later than July of last year but then claimed internal procedures caused delays.

He then confirmed the date as this July.

The residents of Alberton were worried about the terminus because it allegedly homed people who could endanger their safety and had become a dilapidated eyesore.

The facility was initially intended to house a licensing drive-through to relieve the Alrode Licensing Department.

The Alberton Record submitted another enquiry to the city, requesting comment on why the building was not demolished.
