State of Kromvlei Cemetery a big headache for residents

A resident is appalled at the state of Kromvlei Cemetery.

The overgrown weeds and grass at Kromvlei Cemetery are a disgrace. I recently visited Kromvlei and took photos that show some months of neglect, so it cannot be blamed on the rains during December.

The grave in the foreground was completely cleaned up and a brick surround was laid last June.

You might be able to spot a tombstone here and there among the growth. We are appalled at the state of the place. It is nothing short of disgraceful.

Someone needs to have their knuckles wrapped and take responsibility as a matter of urgency.

• The Alberton Record requested comment from EMM. They replied, “The City is aware of the cemetery’s condition. There were delays in getting workers on the ground to begin the maintenance of Kromvlei Cemetery because the internal processes needed to unfold.

“The maintenance is underway at the cemetery,” said spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.
