Brackendowns CPF troubled by crime in the area

Brackendowns CPF hosted their scheduled meeting on January 7 to discuss crime acts in the area and how to prevent them.

Brackendowns CPF successfully hosted its first 2023 crime overview meeting at the McBride Street Park on January 7.

The meeting’s objectives were to inform members about the neighbourhood, help them get to know their neighbours and convey the value of working in unity to combat crime.

According to the chairperson of Brackendowns CPF, Geoff Steyn, the neighbourhood had a problematic house for a while, but recent occurrences have left the locals desperate and demanding something to be done.

“Some residents have lived in the area for 40 years and do not feel safe. The house in question has been illegally connecting to neighbours’ electricity as well as water. This has now culminated in excessive costs and inconvenience for the immediate neighbours,” said Steyn.

A gate motor was recently stolen in the early morning hours. The suspects were apprehended within a block of the residence with the stolen goods in their possession.

The arrested suspects were allegedly again seen on the streets within a few hours after their arrest.

Steyn said residents want answers on how and why the justice system is failing taxpayers to this level.
Residents at the meeting asked more questions about their safety inside their homes.

As part of the documentation process for escalation, minutes were taken.

Brackendowns CPF encouraged locals to guide them about what they would like to be addressed on the agenda for the next scheduled meeting.
