Filrec in Alrode celebrates their 40th anniversary

Welcome to a company which is proud of its history, its products and its people.

The recipe for success behind Filrec (Pty) Ltd at 24 Basalt Street in Alrode, Alberton is blood, sweat, and tears.

The company, which manufactures and services filters, celebrated its 40th anniversary recently.

In the opinion of a shareholder, Coen Swart, it is an important achievement worth celebrating. In 1982 the company opened its doors with three staff members and 40 years later there are 70.

Forty years of blessings

On November 26, everyone gathered for a 40th-anniversary celebration and year-end party – everything from speeches to catching up on what’s going on in everyone’s lives.

Celebrating 40 years in style.

Coen presented Rasmus (Rassie) Petrus Erasmus (86) with a gift of appreciation during the evening.

“It takes a phenomenal leader to love and care for his employees. Thank you Rassie for creating our second home,” says Coen.

According to Coen, overcoming challenges and getting through difficult times were the highlights of each year.

“Our ability to overcome strikes, Covid-19 and economic pressure has been a blessing. We can look back on the last 40 years with a smile and look forward to the future with great anticipation.”

According to Coen, looking after their staff and making sure they are happy is very important for the company.

“We strive to offer the best product with excellent service at a reasonable price.”

Coen’s life has been changed by Filrec. “Our goal is to build a foundation that is so strong that the business can celebrate its 100th anniversary one day.”

Their clients who have been with them for years are greatly appreciated by Coen and Rassie.

“Thank you to our raw material suppliers and management team at the factory. To every employee, thank you,” said Coen and Rassie.

A brief history

Filrec (Pty) Ltd was founded by Rassie and Coen Swart in 1982. The company has grown to become one of the market leaders in refurbishing used air filters and manufacturing new and custom end-user filters in its segment of the market.

From humble beginnings out of a garage, Filrec today employs more than 70 dedicated staff. After moving to 4 Basalt Street in 1984, the business in 2000 purchased its state-of-the-art business premises at 24 Basalt Street in Alrode.

During this period, the company expanded at a rapid rate and to date, still serves some of its first corporate clients.

The company has also started a dust control and cartridge division and started manufacturing and servicing bags, dust control and cartridges.

More recently, Filrec has begun a new division in the business that not only services filters but also builds and maintains these dust control systems.

Between the air filters, small plant filters, specialist strainers, dust control filters, jacuzzi filters and Wap filters, including reconditioned filters Filrec produces between 6 000 to 7 000 units per month.

About 25 tons of raw equipment gets imported from Europe each year from companies such as Hollingworth, Vose and Bosso Ahlstrom.

“As part of our commitment to providing the highest quality products and services to our clients, we supply the best filtering products to all nine provinces of our country through our agents and distribution networks.

“Filrec (Pty) Ltd has been a Level 2 BBEEE contributor for over a decade and with continued innovation, superior products, solid financial management and a motivated workforce, they will continue to flourish,” said Coen.
