Child Welfare is in dire need of foster parents

Alberton Child Welfare is urgently looking for foster parents ahead of the festive season and potential parents are urged to apply at the Alberton North organisation.

Alberton Child Welfare has been working around the clock to eradicate backlogs of court orders which have lapsed, however, the limitation of resources delays them in carrying out their duties.

Their primary goal is to remove and support children who need care and protection, placing them in safe environments. Limited resources continue to hinder them from providing social welfare services.

On average, they remove one to two children weekly who are victims of severe neglect or abuse to substance abuse and other factors. They extend an urgent appeal to locals of Alberton to become foster parents and urgently assist with any form of donations.

Anubha Mackerdhuj of Alberton Child Welfare said they remove children from environments that place them in harm. Once removed, she said they again encounter a problem of not being able to provide for them.

Mackerdhuj said they don’t have enough foster parents, temporal safe-care parents or facilities that accommodate these children nor resources to provide for them.

“We don’t have anything for the children like clothing, baby milk and food items. We have many cases with different reasons for removal and when we remove the children we face difficulty because we cannot totally take them out of a dangerous circumstance,” she explained.

She reiterated that their current foster care parents are also dependent on them to assist and yet Alberton Child Welfare lack such resources.

She also appealed to local schools, churches and businesses to assist them with much-needed donations.

To contribute towards the sustainability of the organisation, contact Alberton Child Welfare at 010 109 6121, 073 907 3004 or Mackerdhuj at 083 658 6176.
