Brackenhurst clinic commemorates World Aids Day
Brackenhurst clinic and interested parties showed support for people living with HIV and remembered those who have died during a candle lighting ceremony.
Brackenhurst Clinic joined the country and other health facilities across the city in observing World Aids Day on December 1.
World Aids Day is commemorated each year on December 1 and is an opportunity for every community to unite in the fight against HIV, to show support and to remember those who have died.
The morning of the event was slightly different than other days as staff and interested parties from the community observed the momentous day, while also observing 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. Patients were also presented with awareness focusing on societal subjects.
The healthcare facility was joined by Brackendowns SAPS Social Crime Prevention Unit, including Bennie Boekwurm as well as Joshua Generation Girls, who gave a stunning performance.
Ward 38 Clr Thavha Maifala-Masebe, who addressed patients, encouraged people to check their health status at least once a year and strongly condemned abuse against women and children.
“Aids continues to affect people’s lives, but the good thing about it is that it can be managed and treated. Communities need to get tested regularly. We want to continue building a community that makes people believe that we are worth living and worth being protected,” he said.
