City of Ekurhuleni is ready to help GBV victims

The City of Ekurhuleni urges gender-based violence victims to seek professional from one of the Ekurhuleni's Customer Care Centres as from November 25, as the city fully part-takes in the 16 Days of Activism.

The City of Ekurhuleni will participate in the global 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children on November 25.

To assist in the fight against GBV, the city encourages those who have been affected by it as well as other troubled residents to seek the help of social workers who are accessible at customer care centres (CCC) located across Ekurhuleni.

This year’s theme is ‘Socio-Economic Rights and Empowerment to Build Women’s Resilience Against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide: Connect, Collaborate, Contract!’.

According to Zweli Dlamini, given the national crisis of GBV, the city emphatically condemns all acts of violence. To ensure there is no violence all year round, the city collaborated with civil society and nonprofit organisations.

The free social work services provided by the city’s CCCs include:

• Individual counselling

• Victim empowerment counselling

• Shelter placements

• Couples counselling

• Family preservation and counselling service.

Residents may also get in touch with social workers for questions or help on:

• Cooperate office – 011 999 2655

• KwaThema/Brakpan – 011 999 6679

• Germiston/Katlehong – 011 999 1787

• Alberton/Thokoza – 011 999 2689

The 16 Days of Activism for no violence against women and children runs until December 10.
