Burst pipe leaves parts of Alberton without water

The City of Ekurhuleni said the estimated restoration time for all areas is 17:00.

According to the City of Ekurhuleni, technicians working on the burst water pipe affecting Brackenhurst in Alberton have temporarily restored water supply to low-lying areas through a bypass pipe connection, whilst repairs to the burst pipe are still underway.

“The estimated restoration time to all areas is 17:00 today,” said City in a statement.

Residents have been advised of a burst water pipe that has left parts of Alberton and its surroundings without water this Thursday morning.

Councillor Thavha Maifala-Masebe said the department has advised that there is a serious burst on its main supply towards the south of Alberton.

“We have isolated the water and are busy with an assessment of the damage to determine what is needed to rectify and how long it would take,” said Maifala-Masebe.

According to Maifala-Masebe, the department stated that “In the meantime, Brackenhurst, Brackendowns, Mayberrypark, Albertsdal, parts of Alrode, SAB, Thinasonke and Eden Park are without water. Thokoza will run out of water soon.”

At this stage, there is no estimated turnaround time, residents are advised to join the WhatsApp group for more updates.
