Demolishing of Alberton CBD’s dilapidated bus terminus sees the light

There might be light at the end of the tunnel to demolish Alberton CBD’s dilapidated bus terminus building.

City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) dignitaries visited the dilapidated bus terminus in Alberton during the previous month.

The building, which was initially earmarked to be a licensing drive-through to ease the burden on Alrode Licensing Department, will soon be demolished according to the city.

There have since been calls from concerned commuters and the community to have the building to be demolished, as it has become a home for vagrants.

The CoE since promised to have the building demolished by the end of June, but to date, the building is still not yet levelled.

“This is an ongoing saga at the bus station opposite Alberton City. I have complained numerous times. The area is now and then cleaned but when you look again it’s worse than before,” said a concerned resident.

The city’s spokesperson, Zweli Dlamini, said, “The city’s building control office has issued the demolition certificate. Once all safety and compliance procedures for demolition of structures are addressed within the city, the building will be demolished.”

Internal processes delay demolishing of building
