DA in Alberton weighs in on Ward 37 Clr’s debacle

The DA in Alberton has stated that Clr Ivan Naidoo remains committed to residents and as such has created ways to engage and account via public meetings and other mediums and will continue to do so.

The DA in Alberton has noted the online article headlined ‘Locals express their dissatisfaction in Ward 37 councillor’.

This is after a collective from the ward said it is demanding effective service delivery and accountability on issues affecting residents.

This follows a committee report compiled by the group of concerned residents about their plights.

“It should be noted that the report referenced in the article is one compiled by the elected ward committee members meant to raise their concerns about the level of service delivery with the respective municipal departments, related to their respective portfolios,” the DA stated.

It said the report aimed to highlight the frustration of the councillor, the ward committee members and residents in the slow pace of response to service delivery complaints in the ward.

While the same issues have been raised by the community, the DA said it is unfortunate that the article refers to reports as coming from the so-called ‘collective’. This is an incorrect representation of the report.

“As the DA, we note the dissatisfaction raised by some people on their interactions with the ward councillor. We continue to empower our councillors as well as educate residents on the workings of the municipality. As such we have full confidence that with the support of progressive groups and fewer distractions our councillors will prove that they are fit for purpose,” it stated.

The DA in Alberton says it remains committed to ensuring that residents of Ward 37 have access to the services they pay for, as well as a public representative who will escalate their complaints to the council officials.
