Help Busters provides a homely touch to paediatric oncology unit

The NPO Help Busters has offered support to parents and cancer warriors at Netcare Alberton Hospital’s paediatric oncology unit.

Since the non-profit organisation’s inception in 2017, Help Busters has assisted thousands of beneficiaries and just recently Netcare Alberton Hospital was among those receiving support.

Help Busters, led by Wilna Berry alongside Dave Etherington, have shown acts of kindness by making a much-needed donation and giving the oncology unit a homely touch.

On October 19, the pair presented the unit with a stack of ‘comfort’ teddy bears with mini blankets for cancer patients. This follows a long list of donated items also provided by the NPO.

Berry said they earlier donated a microwave, dinner sets, kettles, laundry stand, toys and bookshelves.

“We decided to get involved as an NPO since not many people are involved in childhood cancer. To mothers visiting the children’s ward and who cannot afford to buy food from the canteen, we decided to donate a bar fridge and other appliances to use,” she said.

“I normally walk in and offer treats and support to parents because they need all the support they can have while they go through trying times. I have always wanted to lend a helping hand to those in need and this enabled us to help people from all backgrounds. We have assisted people as far as Mpumalanga,” Berry said.

Etherington reiterated: “We want to see if we could do this as an ongoing project, instead of a one-off donation. We want children to generate a wish list and we will go out to our partners and possibly see if we can’t secure those gifts for them.”

Netcare Alberton Hospital’s paediatric oncology unit extended its gratitude to the duo for their selflessness.

Help Busters offers support to schools, old age homes and less fortunate communities.
