Mobile classroom to be provided at local school

The Gauteng Department of Education has assured it will intervene to assist learners of Eden Park Secondary School.

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has confirmed that Eden Park Secondary School will be provided with a mobile classroom, which comes with tables and chairs.

This follows a fierce blaze that broke out at the school, scorching several mobile classrooms on August 21. Fire services managed to put out the fire on time and no injuries or casualties were sustained.

DEMS spokesperson William Ntladi previously confirmed that two mobile classrooms were completely burnt, while three were partially burnt and three were saved. The cause of the fire was not determined.

However, GDE’s spokesperson, Steve Mabona, told the Alberton Record it was also reported that one of the classrooms at the back of the school was also broken into.

The one mobile classroom was gutted to the ground.

Meanwhile, the department also cleared the air on allegations of financial mismanagement at the school, raised by a concerned parent at the school.

He claimed that too many service providers of the school are unduly benefitting financially due to lax leadership.

“This will surely contribute towards the ever-increasing social ills within our community and ensure its rapid regression. This school was constructed to accommodate approximately 900 learners, but have enrolled almost 1 800 learners for the academic school year 2022,” he said.

Speaking for the department, Mabona said the department has not received any complaints about financial mismanagement at the school.
