The Community Liaison and Intervention Units of the EMPD, together with the CPS Security, arrested three suspects on August 13.
The arrested three men were apprehended on Michelle Avenue, Meyersdal.
According to the City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson, Zweli Dlamini, the EMPD tried to stop a blue VW Polo hatchback, with three male occupants, after it skipped a red traffic light at high speed on Hennie Alberts Street.
Dlamini said that the VW motorist ignored flashing blue lights and sirens forcing officers to call for back-up. The fleeing suspects were cornered on Michelle Avenue and one suspect jumped out and attempted to escape the scene but could not outrun the law enforcement officers.
“During a thorough inspection and search of the suspect’s vehicle, it was discovered that the fixed number/registration plates did not correspond with the one displayed on the licence disc and a jamming device was also found in the vehicle,” he said.
The three of them have been charged with driving carelessly and recklessly, conspiracy to commit a crime and displaying a fake licence disc.
They were taken to the Brackendowns Police Station and their car was impounded at the EMPD precinct for further examination.
The three men are expected to appear at the Palmridge Magistrate’s Court soon.
