Car stolen outside shopping centre recovered, suspect arrested

A local is thrilled to have their stolen car recovered by members of Alberton SAPS after the vehicle was stolen outside a shopping centre over the weekend.

A car owner, Tefo Mofokeng, has commended the men and women in blue of Alberton SAPS for swiftly recovering his white Mazda that was stolen on August 3 at a parking lot outside a local shopping centre.

After doing shopping and on his way back to his car, he was startled to discover that it had been stolen from the parking lot.

He then reported it stolen at the Alberton Police Station.

“It only took them [SAPS] about an hour to recover the vehicle. A suspect was nabbed while driving on the N3; he was cornered on the N3 off-ramp towards Phumula. The vehicle was recovered swiftly thanks to the tracker on the car and I’m grateful to the members for their great involvement,” Mofokeng said.

The male suspect who faces a charge of possession of a stolen motor vehicle will appear at the Germiston Magistrate’s Court.

Acting station commander Lieutenant Colonel Samuel Mohoebi has applauded Alberton SAPS members who recovered the vehicle.
