Law enforces nab duo for hijacking, kidnapping in South Crest

The EMPD has noted a growing trend of the hijacking of courier light delivery vehicles between 09:00 and 14:00.

EMPD officers, the local SAPS, the Alberton Reaction Unit, Fox Security and CPS Security arrested two suspects for hijacking a motor vehicle on the corner of Vlei and Paul Sehlogo streets in South Crest on July 26.

The members received information from a crime-fighting reaction group working with a vehicle tracking company.

The information was of a white Isuzu light delivery vehicle (LDV) reported hijacked and of the driver being kidnapped on the Geldenhuys interchange on the N3 split by two suspects driving a silver-grey Toyota sedan.

“They immediately acted on the information. Working with the vehicle tracking company, they cornered the suspects on Vlei and Paul Sehlogo streets. The two SA male suspects, aged 44 and 45, of whom one was driving the hijacked motor vehicle, and the other driving a silver-grey Toyota sedan, were arrested and taken to the Alberton Police Station,” explained EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa.

The SAPS charged the duo with hijacking and kidnapping.

“This has become a trend in Alberton, where they hijack courier LDVs between 09:00 and 14:00. The two suspects will appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court. The vehicle was taken to the Aeroton police yard for safe-keeping,” Thepa said.
