Suspects at large amid ATM bombings in Alberton

Brackendowns SAPS and private security companies responded to two separate incidents of ATM bombings in Alberton in the early hours of June 13.

The first incident was on Bosworth Street in Alrode south while the second occurrence was at Cliffys shopping centre in Alrode.

According to Sentinel Security, while attending to the Alrode South incident, their response officers came under heavy fire.

“One Sentinel vehicle was immobilized by shots fired. Sentinel Security’s presence deterred the suspects. Approximately 10 to 15 suspects were involved and the scene was handed over to SAPS,” stated Sentinel Security.

SOG Security responded to the second scene in Alrode while attending to an alarm and they got shot at.

“One vehicle got hit twice and a response officer was hit in the arm and was hospitalized. The perpetrators managed to escape and they didn’t get any cash. The bomb squad also came and cleared the scene,” explained DuToit Lambrechts, director of SOG Security.

Lambrechts said at least 15 9mm calibre (shell casings) were found on the scene in Alrode.
