Court hears Hitzeroth murder accused couple’s matter

The couple accused of being involved in the murder of Gert Hitzeroth will only appear before the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on October 11 following a postponement.

The couple accused of being involved in the murder of Gert Hitzeroth appeared in Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on August 21 and 23.

The two took to the dock on August 21, as one witness who is implicated in the matter presented his version of events.

Though the matter was set to continue on August 23, due to the presiding magistrate being ill, the matter saw another postponement to October 11 for further hearing.

Accused number one faces a charge of murder. According to the State, he is accused of causing the death of Hitzeroth by beating him with a baseball bat and drowning him in the pool. The accused has since pleaded not guilty.

The second accused faces two charges. The first is for defeating the ends of justice, in which the State alleged that she hid the murder weapon from police and cleaned up the blood of the deceased. The accused pleaded not guilty to this charge.

The second charge against her is of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm as an accessory.

They remain outside on bail after being earlier granted bail of R15 000 and R5 000 respectively.
