Suspect arrested for theft and perjury, among others

Members of Alberton SAPS were all hands on deck over the weekend as they detained at least 14 suspects for a range of crimes.

Alberton SAPS arrested 14 suspects for various offences at their policing precinct from July 21 to 23.

They nabbed five suspects for theft, three for drunk driving, one for assault, four for shoplifting, and detained one with a warrant of arrest.

Among the suspects arrested was a man arrested for theft and perjury. The suspect opened a false case of truck hijacking in Alberton. Preliminary investigations revealed there was no truck hijacking, as the driver was alleging.

After contacting the owners, the officers found the truck was in Crystal Park SAPS. The officers already arrested five suspects for being in possession of the truck.

According to Captain Neldah Sekgobela, the SAPS Ekurhuleni district communications officer, after interviews with the driver, the officers had no option but to register perjury and defeat the ends of the justice docket.

“The driver will soon appear in the local court of law to face his alleged criminal activities,” she said.

The acting station commander of Alberton SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Robert Makopo, welcomed the excellent work of the police members. He is appealing to the community not to waste state resources by opening false dockets because they will face arrest and charged,” she said.
