One step left to close Baby Eden’s kidnapping case

The Palmridge Magistrate’s Court will lay the Baby Eden kidnapping case to rest on July 26, when the magistrate will announce her judgement.

The five suspects accused of kidnapping Eden Laird when he was 13 months old re-appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on July 17.

Cleopatra Manjankozi, a then-housekeeper for the Laird family, Kholwani Nyathi, Amos Moyo, Maduna Nonkanyiso, and Nelisini Gabela stand charged with kidnapping and extortion under Schedule 6 of the Criminal Code.

After the domestic worker’s alleged departure from Eden’s Brackendowns residence for a stroll with the child and subsequent non-return, police said Eden was reported missing on May 2, 2018.

The state prosecutor and the three defence counsels for the five accused presented their addresses of merit before the magistrate during the recent court hearings.

The proceedings were postponed to July 26 for the magistrate to announce the verdict of the matter.
