Four suspects arrested for cable theft in Alberton

Four suspects were arrested shortly after a high-speed chase in Alberton for cable theft on June 21.

CPS Security together with EMPD and Alberton SAPS arrested four suspects in Voortrekker Road, New Redruth, for cable theft on June 21.

CPS Security director Tyrone van der Merwe said that they received an anonymous tip-off about individuals that were stealing cables from Alberton North.

“The suspects’ vehicle was spotted by one of our reaction units and a high-speed chase followed,” said Van der Merwe.

CPS Security requested a backup from other local authorities and the vehicle was stopped just before climbing onto the N12 highway.

According to Van der Merwe, the passengers got out of the car and fled on foot before being apprehended.

Electric cables found.

False licence plates, house break-in tools that are believed were used to commit the crime, and copper cable that had been stolen were all found in the getaway car.

CPS Security thanked Alberton SAPS and EMPD for the quick back-up.

All four suspects were detained and are being held at the Alberton SAPS.
