EMPD nabs suspects for dealing in drugs worth R5K

Four male suspects between the ages of 28 to 40 were collectively found in possession of drugs.

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU), arrested four male suspects for possibly dealing in drugs and the prohibited drugs were confiscated in Alberton on March 30.

Following an ongoing operation aimed at cracking down on drug dealers, the DEU officers visited Roodekop informal settlement and Potgieter Road, in Alberton.

Four male suspects between the ages of 28 to 40, were collectively found in possession of 32 zip-lock bags of dagga, 23 zip-lock bags of Crystal Meth, eight zip-lock bags of Rock, six full, two half and nine-quarter mandrax tablets with nine packets of nyaope, valued at R5 760, as well as R89 in cash.

“The handcuffed suspects facing charges of ‘possession and possible dealing in illicit substance’, were marched to the Alberton police station. They are expected to appear at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court soon,” said Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa, EMPD spokesperson.

She said the EMPD applauds members of the community who assist in bringing lawbreakers to book and keeping the City of Ekurhuleni free from unauthorised drug trafficking.
