The Brackendowns SAPS teamed with the Brackendowns CPF, Black Hawk Security, and Afriforum for an operation called Vala Zonke.
“During the operation, we noticed three men on the corner of Hennie Alberts Street and Nelson Mandela Avenue. We approached them, and our SAPS reservists asked to search them,” said spokesperson Warrant Officer Gerhard Cornelius.
During the search, police found a rolled-up grey jacket that contained a .38 special revolver with the serial numbers filed off and three live rounds.
At that stage, the men ran toward Meyersdal Mall.
The team chased them and arrested the suspects in the mall’s parking area. In the man’s possession were three pairs of gloves and three balaclavas.
The trio was arrested and transported to the SAPS Brackendowns for detention. The firearm, ammunition and clothing were handed in as evidence.
