Suspects escape with ATM cash box in Alrode garage robbery

The Alrode garage robbery follows a cash-in-transit (CIT) heist on Swartkoppies Road.

Just hours after a security guard was injured in a cash-in-transit (CIT) heist on Swartkoppies Road last night, the Sasol garage in Alrode was robbed by four armed suspects.

According to Brackendowns SAPS spokesperson, Warrant Officer Gerhard Cornelius, two masked men entered the garage on Bosworth and Potgieter streets while two others waited outside.

“The two suspects who entered the shop fired shots at the roof and demanded cigarettes and cash. The other two suspects outside blew up the ATM outside and ran away with the safety box,” he said.

Cornelius said the suspects fired four shots in the sky before leaving. Four bullet casings were found on the scene.

“The suspects got away with an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes,” said Cornelius.

Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident.

The matter is under investigation and a case of business robbery and explosive act has been opened at Brackendowns SAPS.
