Murder suspect changes defense strategy

The double homicide court case will continue on January 24.

In a sombre courtroom scene at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court, Pardon Danhire (37), a Zimbabwean national and former family gardener, faced proceedings related to the murder of Nadine Terblanche and her son, Ruandré, on November 27, 2023.

Appearing on January 3, Danhire, who initially said he would defend himself, altered his legal strategy by applying for legal aid.

He also instructed his legal representative to abandon his bail.

Having served as the family gardener for many years, Danhire had earned the trust of the Terblanche family.

The court proceedings on January 3 saw the matter being postponed to January 24. The purpose of this delay is to determine whether the case will be elevated to the high court.

Nadine Terblanche’s mother, Carol Terblanche, and Nadine’s life partner, Freddie Stapelberg, attended court in T-shirts bearing a photo of the late mother and son.

Their presence, along with the support of friends and family, underscored the emotional weight carried by this trial.

In the meantime, the police investigation team continued its work in December interviewing people linked to the investigation.

According to the family, they have the assurance that the police are doing everything possible to make sure the investigation is thorough.

The Terblanche family, along with their supporters, remain strong in their pursuit of truth and justice for Nadine and Ruandré.
