Covenant College celebrates 35 years of educational excellence

To celebrate the milestone it has achieved, Covenant College had a week of great activities for all

Covenant College is a Christian private school located in the beautiful suburb of Rispark, in Johannesburg South. Their doors have been open since 1988 and they are celebrating their 35th anniversary this year.

The birth of Covenant College

Covenant College started off with a mere 100 students and 11 staff members. The first classrooms were built by members of the community, who pitched in and helped build the lower tier of the school and workstations.

Soon enough the school began to grow and the need for more capacity became apparent.

Since the beginning, fundraising and donations have played a vital role in the school’s growth and development.
Parents donated funds which went towards the grass for the fields and the beautiful trees you will see should you walk through the quad in front of the primary school administration block.

In 2007 the school expanded even further when the high school was opened, and in 2015 an additional building block was built. The bible verse, Philippians 4:19, “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory” has been a fundamental part of school’s history.

Covenant College School was established by Rhema South Bible Church. From small beginnings, it has prospered and the fellowship between parents, learners and teachers continues to give the school hope for the future.

What the institution stands for

Covenant College works as partners with parents to enable learners to develop into responsible, educated citizens, with sound Biblical principles as an inherent part of their decision making.

It guides and motivates the learners to develop in every area of their lives, educationally, spiritually and physically and to become innovative individuals who are able to express ideas and contribute to society.

Learners experience Covenant College as a loving, caring and disciplined environment, where they are assisted in developing their own God-given talents and abilities.

The school believes in a vibrant relationship with Jesus and a faith that is active and alive. That’s why there are many faith-based activities at the school ranging from praise and worship assemblies, prayer groups, bible education classes and many other biblical extracurricular activities where learners receive the word of God, mentorship, and support.

Looking back and celebrating

Thousands of learners have walked the corridors and occupied the classrooms. Many of whom have taken up their rightful place and made a meaningful contribution to society.

It is a year of great celebration as they looked back on their past with pride. They stand confidentially, looking toward the future, for throughout the storied history, the school has gone through many transformations that have enhanced its mission and propelled its growth as an educational institution of excellence.

To celebrate the school’s milestone, there was a weeklong celebration which started on September 4 until September 9.

The highlights from the week included a drone image taken of the learners in a 35 outline, doughnut day, a 1980’s dress up, a blessed worship night with Heinz Winckler on Wednesday, September 6, and a family fun day open to the public with a variety of vendors, inflatables, and rides for all children.

High school and primary school principals, Maria Jordaan and Gary Mangena said: “We believe in nurturing young minds and spirits, fostering a love for knowledge, and developing well-rounded individuals who are prepared to excel academically, spiritually, and personally.

Our dedicated team of highly qualified teachers and staff are committed to providing a supportive environment that encourages students to grow and flourish. We look forward to what God has prepared for our school for the next 35 years and beyond.”
