Community pools ready for Spring Day

These public pools will open today to the public.

Most of the CoE public swimming pools will open today (Friday) to welcome spring after the winter shutdown.

During the winter break, the city did extensive maintenance and repairs to pools to prepare them for the splish-splash season starting today, September 1.

Eighteen community pools across the city will be open to all bathers to cool off, for fitness, leisure purposes and mental stimulation, among other benefits.

“We are aware that communities always look forward to the reopening of the pools, so we always ensure that during winter, we prepare the pools so they are ready and safe to use when we reopen them,” said metro spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.

Meanwhile, minor maintenance and repair works were ongoing at the Vosloorus, Palm Ridge, Alberton, Benoni, Brakpan, Alra Park, Gerdview and Van Dyk Park swimming pools. These pools will open later.

The entrance fee to all community pools as per the new tariffs is R11 per person and R15 for Delville (Germiston) and Boksburg North Swimming Pool in Boksburg, which are category A pools. Category A pools are Olympic-sized and heated indoors and outdoors. They are high-profile pools for the hosting of provincial, national, and international events.

Schoolchildren will not be allowed entry to public swimming pools during school hours unless prior arrangements were made by their schools. This, however, is subject to approval by the city’s sports and recreation department.
