Men get prostate cancer screening

Men from the Alberton community visited Gatwick Circle in Raceview on the morning of July 27 to get screened for prostate cancer.

Wards 23 and 106 joined forces to conduct prostate-specific antigen (PSA) tests on local men to promote healthy living.

The community project and health drive, facilitated by Pink Drive, saw more than 50 men visit their stall.

PSA is a blood test used primarily to screen for prostate cancer and measure the level of PSA in a sample of one’s blood.

Ward 106 committee member Bronwyn Brajevich said: “Lynette Meyer from Ward 23 contacted me, wanting to partner with our ward in conducting this drive. She had a donation of about 60 prostate-specific antigen blood tests for men and wanted us to conduct this in our community.”

Meyersdal’s Eddie Dias thanked and commended the team for taking their time to conduct those crucial tests.

“This was an easy and very comfortable process. The ladies were knowledgeable and made this a good experience. I believe this is something we need to do more often,” he said.

The team included Leon Zwane, Bronwyn Brajevich, Sisters Connie Shibambu Precious Baloyi and Smangele Msane.
