Another boxing champion to come out of Master Box Giant

Boxing giants are ready to compete for the big title in a spectacular event.

The Master Box Giant on July 29 is set to produce another champion for Johannesburg South.

On July 5 it was confirmed at the Lock Stock and Beer event held by Stephen Castle that James Britz will be the man to face Johnny Koen.

In an eliminator fight between Britz and Wynand Mulder, the latter didn’t come out of his change room to fight. Automatically Britz became the Gauteng champion and first in line for the middleweight title.

The Giant will host seven Master Box fights with a rematch between Morne Theunissen and Hylton Turner also on the cards.

Johnny Anthony will take on Rudi Bruwer in defence of his Gauteng title which he won by beating Daniel Bruwer. After that fight, big brother stepped up and said he wants Johnny.

Theunissen is in a rematch with Turner as it was deemed a contentious stoppage in their fight in March.

Everybody loves a rematch and the 120kg fighters will bring the splendour to the day.

James Sey, who will enjoy his 51st boxing match and at the age of 60 is looking in great shape to take on Pieter Matthews for a heavyweight fight.

Anton Gilmore and Thompson Mokwana

Anton Gilmore is celebrating 15 years to the day that he fought Thompson Mokwana at Emperor’s Palace in 2008 for his son Aidan. Aidan turns 16 on August 1 and what a way to celebrate.

The other highlight of the event is the return of Jared Lovett to the ring. Jared was the biggest draw card almost 20 years ago when he fought Popeye Moganedi and Johnny Koen. It’s an honour to have the original Giant on as he fights Yomi Shakumbe.

Lovett has designs on becoming a Master Box champion and this fight will set that up possibly in October.
Other fights will see Riaz Morgan take on Martin Steyn and Greig Walker is also on the event.

The event takes place at Club House Grill, 1a Short St, Oakdene on July 29 at 13:30 and Master Box fights at 15:00 with a live rugby fan park at 17:00 straight after the boxing.

For tickets and more information contact Anton Gilmore on 083 653 0190.
