Rossettenville’s Nobuhle is a force to be reckoned with

Nobuhle, an Afro pop and R&B singer, collaborated with Karla Grunewaldt, an indie singer-songwriter pop star, on the remix of the hit single, Luz, which was originally written in Spanish.

Nohle Nyirenda of Rossenttenville is flying the South African flag with her collaboration with South American/Spanish pop star Karla Grunewaldt on the Luz single.

Nobuhle, an Afro-pop and R&B singer, collaborated with Karla Grunewaldt, an indie singer-songwriter pop star, on the remix of the hit single, Luz, which was originally written in Spanish.

She adds her spice with an isiZulu verse while switching between isiZulu and Spanish. The announcement came after the World Of Music & Dance Festival (WOMAD) South Africa, 2022.

WOMAD assembled an eclectic and quality-driven mix of global musical talent and invited them to South African stages to exchange cultures in music. Artists include some of Africa’s finest performers including Tresor (DRC), African jazz pioneers The Mahotella Queens (South Africa), Karla Grunewaldt (Chile), Kristina Jacobsen (US) and many more.

This year, they held WOMAD in Chile on April 1 and Nobuhle travelled there to showcase her musical work, including the Luz collaboration.

She is on a mission to spread the message of ‘women empowerment’ and finds Luz, which means light in English, throughout the globe with her music.

Her domination in the Afro-pop/jazz and R&B genres has her making waves in and beyond the borders of South Africa, ahead of her long-awaited album set to be released in June.

She turns darkness into light and it is a perfectly crafted artsy pop record built with epic production and layered vocals. But underneath the beats are gems of lyrics – poetic lines with a message to inspire and encourage listeners that there will be light again.

Nobuhle said she is proud and excited about the collaboration and to meet the Spanish pop singer in person and to create the single.

“Recording the track was a wonderful experience. I love the Karla Grunewaldt production team. Meeting Karla in person was also great. We were able to jam during the WOMAD festival, which brought Karla and me closer to learning our sounds and fusing them.

“The release of the single and its music video came a week before the audio release, proving that we are ready to take over the world with no time to waste. The music video showcases a relaxing ambience of a fairy garden.

“The video plays with the beauty of women and human nature and has beautiful cutaways of the scene. Some of the most striking views are when I sing along to the Bryanston Pine Forest trees in South Africa, and in the same breath, Karla Grunewaldt’s drone shots at the Atacama Desert in Chile.”

For online only
