Adopt a pet: Coco is patiently waiting for her forever home

Coco has been at the Animal Anti-Cruelty League in Johannesburg (AACL) for 18 months. She’s patiently waiting, with all the love to give, for her forever home.

Coco was brought to AACL on May 23, 2021. She is very playful, can sit on command, walks on a lead and loves attention. She is very good with people.

Julia Rice, public relations for Hill’s Pet Nutrition, said Coco and many of the other pets have been at AACL for a long time.

“There are thousands of long-term pets looking for homes in shelters across the country and we are attempting to help these pets find loving homes through an app developed by Hill’s Pet Nutrition. Prospective pet parents frequently overlook long-term pets in favour of adopting kittens or puppies.

“As a result, the shelter cares for the pets there, and they rely on public and corporate donations and sponsorships because they do not receive government funding.

“The Pet Matchmaker app was created in the hope of clearing South Africa’s shelters and providing every pet with a loving, forever home.

“The app will have South Africans scrolling and swiping all day long. Looking for that new blonde, brunette or ginger has never been simpler – they are all there on your screen, looking for their forever homes.

“The app makes the matchmaking process easier when looking for a family pet, a companion or even a cheeky cat with a love for mischief. With the app you will have access to shelters from across South Africa, enabling pet parents to search for their purr-fect pet,” said Rice.

Rice said prospective pet parents can apply filters and customise their search when looking for their match.

“These filters help you find just what you are looking for. You can search by age, size, breed mix, coat colour, pattern and length, disposition, activity level and suitability with other family members.

“The shelter pets are profiled with their bio, photos and videos. You can find these pets and many more long-standing residents on the Pet Matchmaker app. Free to download on iOS and the Google Play Store,” said Rice.
