Woman killed when tree falls on ablution block in Villa Liza

The tree was reportedly struck by lightning.

A 37-year-old woman died in the Freedom Park informal settlement in Villa Liza after a tree, which had apparently been struck by lightning, fell on her on the evening of December 27.

According to Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) spokesperson Eric Maloka, they responded to a rescue call of a woman trapped under a tree trunk.

“It is alleged that the tree was struck by lightning and fell on an outside ablution block the woman was using at the time.

“Tree brush had to be removed in order to recover her body,” said Maloka.

He added the scene was handed over to SAPS.
