Tania Campbell ousted as Ekurhuleni mayor

The Democratic Alliance's Tania Campbell has been ousted as mayor of the City of Ekurhuleni.

Less than a year into her role as executive mayor for Ekurhuleni Municipality, Tania Campbell has been ousted in a motion of no-confidence vote.

According to the City of Ekurhuleni, the motion passed with 93 votes against and 100 for.

“Following this, a special council meeting will be called for the election of a new mayor,” said the City’s statement on Wednesday.

The motion was brought by the African National Congress (ANC) caucus in the metro.

Campbell was elected executive mayor at the councillor’s inaugural event at Germiston Civic Centre on November 22, 2021.

In other news, Mpho Phalatse has been reinstated as mayor of the City of Johannesburg on October 25.

The Gauteng High Court on Tuesday ruled that the removal of the DA’s Mpho Phalatse as Mayor of Johannesburg was unlawful, unconstitutional and invalid.
