Booysens boxer knocks out opponent

Booysens professional boxer, Lebogang Mashitoa, is looking forward to his next fight after securing a win against France Ramabulo.

Lebogang Mashitoa has added another win to his record of 12 fights, with three wins by technical knockout (TKO).

He recently went head-to-head against professional boxer France Ramabulo from the Free State who succumbed to defeat by TKO in the third round.

The light heavyweight champ’s bout took place on September 30 in Bloemfontein, which only lasted three rounds though scheduled for six rounds.

Mashitoa, who holds at least eight years of experience as a boxer, said he joined the sport because he always had a desire to join the army and serve the country.

“I knew I had to prepare myself for the desired career because the army is no joke, it’s very tough, so I joined boxing to prepare myself physically and mentally. I started with amateur boxing trained by boxing amateur coach Nicky Ness. I worked very hard in the gym as an amateur boxer each day,” he said.

Getting fights in amateur boxing was not smooth sailing for Mashitoa. He said there were not many boxers in the heavyweight division.

“I was fighting between 85 and 90kg at the time and there weren’t a lot of opponents for me to fight. So I was forced to migrate to the professional ranks and stats advancing as a boxer. I was brought into professional boxing by Lionel Hunter who also used to box as a light heavyweight contender,” explained Mashitoa.

Hunter guided him for three years until he was sadly taken by cancer.

His manager Colleen McAusland then took the reins and managed him and he was guarded by professional boxing coach Vusi Mtlolo. His coach has guided him with two professional fights so far.

Mashitoa is now looking forward towards his next fight, which will possibly be in November.
