EMPD shares safety tips with motorists

EMPD urges motorist to be alert when approaching busy intersections and traffic lights.

The EMPD wishes to remind drivers to exercise caution at traffic lights, busy intersections, stop signs and areas designated as smash and grab hot spots.

According to the media liaison officer of EMPD, Lerato Monyane, drivers must always lock all doors and close the windows when approaching such public highways.

“All valuables should be kept in the boot of the car or a specific, discreet location. Always maintain a reasonable following distance to make swerving simple and safe if necessary,” said Monyane.

Monyane further said drivers should avoid entertaining street hawkers since they can be the criminals they are trying to avoid.

By hooting, you alert other drivers to suspicious activity in these hotspots, which can scare off the smash-and-grab criminals.

If you become a victim of the frequent type of robbery, known as smash-and-grab, please report the incident as soon as you can.

To report such incidents call 10111.
