Car thief runs away after spotted in a mall

Alberton SAPS asks for community help to catch a car thief suspect.

Observant members of the Alberton crime stop reported that they saw a known thief who is allegedly always seen stealing from parked cars on September 8.

Police were notified that the alleged offender was startled by the guards as he was halted by the boom gate.

According to captain Manare Ramotshela of Alberton SAPS, the suspect got out of the car while it was still running and fled into the shopping centre before the ground police arrived.

“SAPS members had no choice but to continue with their initial inquiry. While locating the suspect, the police had booked the car in their storage facility,” said captain Ramotshela.

“The police experts have arrived to take the suspect’s fingerprints from the vehicle, and I am confident that they will connect the culprit to more instances of car theft and vandalism,” Ramotshela affirmed.

Ramoshela told the Alberton Record that they found car break-in tools inside the vehicle.

The person whose car was broken into and who had his laptop stolen later came to the station, took his laptop and opened a case.

SAPS advised residents that if they have experienced this type of crime in the area and opened a case, they are welcome to inquire about their case with the investigating officer.
