The M2 highway double-decker bridge in Johannesburg has been closed on both east and west lanes this afternoon, August 18.

[UNFOLDING] The M2 East and West have been closed due to a JMPD strike. Motorists are advised to avoid the M2 Highway heading to central Joburg. It's believed officers are demanding what they have described as "Their Money" from the City of Johannesburg. MM pic.twitter.com/4yxjaBarNN

Unconfirmed reports indicate that the bridge is closed due to Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department employees strike.

Motorists are advised to use alternatives routes.
