Licence Plate Recognition technology leads to arrest in Alberton

Two car hijackers have been arrested on the R59 highway this Wednesday afternoon.

Licence Plate Recognition (LPR) cameras have showed their value when they helped in arrest of two car hijackers on the R59 highway in Alberton on July 20.

According to sales director of CPS Security, Tyrone van der Merwe back up was requested from Midvaal Peace Officers after a wanted vehicle triggered an LPR camera and was travelling towards the Alberton area.

“The wanted vehicle was intercepted on the R59 and was successfully stopped,” he said.

The suspects were found in possession of stolen goods.

“Stolen phones taken in a courier vehicle robbery was found in the vehicle together with other stolen items,” said van der Merwe.

Both suspects were arrested and transported to Alberton SAPS.

Law enforcement agencies involved are CPS Security, ADT Security, FOX Security, Midvaal Peace Officers, EMPD and SAPS Ekurhuleni Trio Task Team.
