Alberton Child Welfare receives kind donation

As part of her charity campaign, junior Miss Alberton finalist recently made a much-needed donation to Alberton Child Welfare.

With winter at our doorsteps, Alberton Child Welfare gladly received a food donation and warm clothing from eight-year-old Ziané van Staden.

She has heeded the organisation’s desperate need by donating food products, socks, shoes and mini blankets.
Ziané, a junior Miss Alberton finalist who is part of the Mr and Miss Alberton pageant, started a socks and slippers charity campaign earlier this year.

According to her mother, Shereen van Staden, she wanted to start something that could be an annual winter charity to donate items such as socks, slippers and blankets among others.

“It was posted on social media and sent to WhatsApp groups to collect as many items to help little ones stay warm. We received donations to the value of about R5 000. When I contacted Alberton Child Welfare they informed me they are always in need of food items as well, so we got more donations for food,” she said.

Although this started as a winter idea, Shereen said they would like to make people aware of the need for food.

“Ziané will continue with this monthly. The pageant is a nice gesture from the Mr and Miss Alberton organisers to encourage young people to help each other as well as those in need. The objective is to get more people involved and be made aware of a greater need,” she said.

Zenzi Buthelezi of Alberton Child Welfare extended her gratitude and said these items will be presented to their beneficiaries.
