Reaction officers, assisted by community nab robbers in Brackendowns

CPS Security's reaction officers and community members gave chase after the suspects as they were trying to flee the scene.

Two suspects have been arrested after an attempted street robbery in Brackendowns this Sunday afternoon.

According to Tyrone van der Merwe, sales director for CPS Security two men have been arrested after they attempted to rob a man and his family who were travelling to a local shopping centre.

Community members and CPS reaction officers gave chase after the suspects.

“The suspects jumped over several property walls to flee after community members and reaction officers chased after them,” he said.

Both suspects were successfully apprehended and handed over to Brackendowns SAPS.

Hereā€™s how to stay safe:

ā€¢ Valuables: Keep your valuables out of sight at all times but make sure you can get to your cellphone quickly if you need to.

ā€¢ Listening: Do not use headphones because they will dampen your ability to sense your surroundings. The more you cut your senses off the easier it is for someone to take you by surprise. Stay alert!

ā€¢ Route: Even if it takes longer, always use a route that is well lit and populated with houses and other walkers instead of taking shortcuts through less-friendly areas. If you feel threatened, you can at least knock on someoneā€™s door for help if you are walking through a familiar neighbourhood.

ā€¢ An emergency: Never try to be a hero if you are accosted by criminals with weapons. Give them what they want and offer no resistance. Try to take in as much detail about the criminals and their vehicles as possible.

As soon as you can, contact the SAPS and open a case.
