WATCH: Meals on Wheels celebrates mothers

Meals on Wheels hosted a belated Mother’s Day event to commemorate women who play a significant role in the lives of others, at the Alberton Service Centre.

According to Rene den Hartog, the purpose of Alberton Service Centre, working together with Meals on Wheels, is to continue serving the elders of the Alberton community in a way that the elders feel honoured and well-taken care off.

“Our vision is to serve elderly people from our communities by providing them with a safe space where we ensure that their expectations are met and catered for, while we also keep them busy doing what they love the most,” said Hartog.

Meals on Wheels is a community-based NPO that delivers cooked meals to older people at their homes.
Young singer, Chalsey Mc Luckie, joined the event to celebrate this special tribute to elderly people and kept them entertained.

“The younger generation needs to start looking deeper at how much their parents do for them and realise that they have their mothers to thank for their lives,” Luckie said.

The elderly were served a delicious breakfast during which they socialised. There was some real heart to heart conversations while they shared their life experiences.

Linah Rammutla has been involved at the centre, providing delicious meals since 1990, and was also part of the event.

“The reason I worked with this organisation for this long is because I am also learning from the elders about various ways to tackle the different circumstances I face and how to conquer this journey called life,” said Rammutla.
