Housing allocation scam continues in Ekurhuleni

Ekurhuleni issues another warning about a housing scam taking place in its precincts.

The City of Ekurhuleni alerts its residents following an ongoing trend of anonymous fraudsters claiming to be able to move people up the housing waiting list in exchange for money.

In the most recent scam, the con artists created a Facebook page where they used a photo of Andile Mahlalutye, the HOD for Human Settlements in Ekurhuleni.

The HOD distances himself from the situation and warns potential victims.

The City reiterated that RDP houses and serviced stands are not for sale. Low-cost housing and serviced lots are allocated through a community participatory process in which the City and councillors contact the beneficiaries to provide regular updates on the status of their housing allocation.

Report any housing fraud to the SAPS, Hawks, Public Protector, or the National Anti-Corruption Hotline on 0800 701 701.
