Ekurhuleni successfully hosts Gcina Mhlophe

The City of Ekurhuleni was delighted to host the legendary and internationally acclaimed, Dr. Gcina Mhlophe to conduct masterclass for artists; storytelling and writing for librarians, poetry and storytelling festival for previously disadvantaged children.

The City of Ekurhuleni hosted the legendary Dr Gcina Mhlophe for a workshop of local aspiring artists at the Dumisani Masilela Theatre in Germiston on May 6.

This event was part of the City’s poetry and storytelling masterclass programme, which focused on performance tactics, storytelling and narrative reading techniques, as well as preparation and rhythm.

Mhlophe reminded the storytellers, who were largely teenagers, that their stories must be conveyed in a way that produces a vivid image for the audience.

According to Mhlophe, you must believe and love your story before you tell it to someone else, in simple terms pay attention to its details and remember them.

“Prepare yourself, know the details of your story and most of all be presentable. Be clean and wear appropriately, this alienates fears and doubts and gives self-confidence,” Mhlophe concluded.
