Seniors celebrated at Alberton Retirement Village

Alberton Retirement Village recently cherished seniors celebrating their birthdays.

Management Council of Alberton Retirement Village recently celebrated the lives of its residents who had attained the age of 90 years or more.

They embraced those milestone years of a group of seniors said to be belonging to the members of CLUB 90.

One of the oldest members, Wally Hunter (95), said his main intention was to grow very old in order to draw as much money from his pension fund as possible. The peaceful atmosphere of the village appeals to him and his wife Noreen.

Makkie Pienaar (94) is now a proud grandmother to her first great-grandchild and said she counts her blessings every day.

Annette van Vuuren, who had turned 93, is best known for her great sense of humour. Her neighbours and other residents in her immediate area best describe her as the ‘sweet auntie’.

Also celebrated was Isabel Barrett, who also just turned 93. Isabel is said to have a quiet, modest nature and a quick smile. She was employed as a shorthand typist during her working career and loved her work.

Gwen Gallo, also 93, said her children and grandchildren love and care for her; she counts herself as extremely blessed.

The now 92-year-old Jean Muller said living in the village has added many extra years to her life as they have no worries.

Hannie van Brakel (91) moved to Johannnesburg in 1948 and married Callie Coetzee, a Capetonian, in 1949. She was blessed to have three great-grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, who she said enrich her life.
