WATCH: Elderly in for a remarkable treat with Alberton Methodist Church

Young at Hearts will now be hosting its event every two months.

Alberton Methodist Church victoriously celebrated the Young at Hearts event on April 20, after two full years without celebrating this event because of the pandemic.

The Young at Hearts event was held at the famous Alberton Methodist Church.

Over 100 individuals joined the gathering and celebrated the day with Dr Vernon van Wyk, as he took them on a journey down memory lane with Elvis Aaron Presley.

Young at Hearts is aimed at bringing elderly people together on a regular basis and showering them with the best time of their lives.

According to the guest speaker and founder, Vernon van Wyk, from the day Alberton Methodist Church was built, it aimed to always be a helping hand and reach out to the most vulnerable people across the streets of Alberton.

“I am a social worker by profession, so working with people has to be aligned as a building factor to my passion because I believe everyone makes a difference in the society,” said Vernon.

Nomsa Dingani and Felicia Yapi also joined the Young at Hearts event.

The elderly people tuned into the late Elvis Aaron Presley’s music for the entire session.

Elvis Aaron Presley was a three-time Grammy Awards winner for gospel songs.

Kobie van Wyk told the RECORD it is a good thing to associate yourself with old people because you learn a lot from them, and you get to understand their environment and how they do things.

“Today’s occasion was a comeback after two years of being without the Young at Hearts initiative. The new team has done a great job in ensuring we stick to the mission and vision of the church, which is to provide valuable services to the community,” Kobie said.

A new Alberton resident who also joined the event, Shirley le Roux, said she enjoyed everything and covets to be one of the individuals making a difference in another individual’s life.
