ALERT: Housing allocation scam

City of Ekurhuleni warns citizens about a newly discovered scam.

The City of Ekurhuleni alerts the public about a social media-based scam that seeks money from RDP beneficiaries.

The scammers claim that they have the authority to allocate houses and can put beneficiaries ahead of the waiting list.

According to CoE spokesperson, Zweli Dlamini, the con-artists request the targeted victims to call a certain number and send through their personal details.

The City advises desperate buyers that the information being spread is fake and that it is a fraud that they are actively investigating.

The allocation of RDP houses and serviced stands is handled through a community collaborative process where officials and ward councillors visit eligible beneficiaries in their areas to alert them of allocation phases.

Residents are encouraged to visit municipal and provincial housing offices to inquire about their status on the Housing Needs Register, subsidy applications, or any other housing-related information.

Residents are also urged to report such incidents and corruption to law enforcement agencies.
