Women’s association aims to curb unemployment

Ekurhuleni Women Initiative Hub, a lobbying collaborative organisation, aims to offer women with skills and business development.

In curbing the scourge of unemployment, women from all walks of life have joined hands to empower marginalised individuals.

An all-female registered NPO, Ekurhuleni Women Initiative Hub (EWIH), launched its association on March 31 at Alberton Civic Centre.

EWIH is an initiative born out of the Women Infrastructure Summit hosted by the office of the Ekurhuleni mayor in 2017.

The summit aimed to empower women and youth, persons with disabilities and military veterans with accessing economic opportunities.

Founding member Tsakani Mudau said the organisation is managed by experienced individuals from different sectors. It aims to concentrate on skills and business development.

“Where there is an opportunity, we want to collaborate as women and approach it as a collective. We are a lobbying collaborating organisation for women and we also have a national footprint. These women and youth, persons with disabilities and military veterans are seasoned professionals in their own different sectors,” she said.

Together these individuals have a collective experience spanning over 20 years.

Mudau said its mission is to identify business opportunities and partners through networking with both the private and public sectors in selected business ventures.

“We aim to contribute to the development of women and youth, persons with disabilities and military veterans and SMMES. We will do this by creating a business management platform through training and mentoring,” she said.

The organisation’s objective is to also lessen poverty by sharing job opportunities with its members and providing on-job training through sub-constructing.
