Stepping Stone Hospice receives much-needed assistance

Theart Mey generously donated R10 000 to assist towards the sustainability of Stepping Stone Hospice on February 18.

In light of the month of love, Theart Mey Attorneys recognised the sacrifices and love that Stepping Stone Hospice and Care Centre puts into their work.

As a means to extend their appreciation, Theart Mey donated R10 000 to assist towards the sustainability of the centre.

The law firm, which has a long-standing relationship with the Alberton community, has over the years committed to spreading love and joy to deserving entities in February.

The law firm had an opportunity to do a walkabout at the facility and familiarised itself with its day-to-day duties.
Tersia Burger, CEO and founder of Stepping Stone Hospice, thanked the law firm for lending a helping hand and said the work that they do is sacred.

Tersia Burger of Stepping Stone Hospice gave thanks to the law firm.

“We used to get a little bit from government and this year we were advised that there’ll be no more government funding. So this donation really helps, and it will make a huge difference. We have running expenses of R668 000 a month, so donations and some medical aids keep us running,” she said.

Burger told the RECORD that they are now in need of reliable cars to provide care to patients in their homes.

“I want to start a mobile clinic and take services to informal settlements. We want to expand our services to areas that are too far,” she said.

Stepping Stone has helped terminally ill patients and their families deal with pain since 2013 and will continue providing such services.

Leon Scheepers of Theart Mey said seeing how Stepping Stone battled to get funding and yet still be able to offer their services was amazing.

“They are giving back more dignity to patients so they can die in a dignified way, which is remarkable. From our side we will promote them as much as we can. We will do more if we can and I think they need more support on a consistent basis,” Scheepers said.
