Vincent Smith, former parliamentarian, will appear in Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court again on April 6.

Former member of parliament Vincent Smith appeared in Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on January 18.

During the proceedings, the State provided the accused with the docket related to the tax fraud charges that were added by SARS in November 2021.

Smith stands accused of tax fraud, money laundering, corruption and breach of the Financial Intelligence Centre Act. He stands accused in his individual capacity and in a representative capacity of his company, Euroblitz 48 Pty Ltd.

The tax fraud charges against Smith stems from his and Euroblitz’s failure to disclose taxable income from March 9, 2009, to July 11, 2018, totalling R28-million.

He is charged with corruption for the gratifications received from Bosasa in the form of security upgrades to his home in Gauteng.

Further corruption charges Smith faces is unlawfully accepting further gratifications from Waterfall Golf Estate and CLIDET 69, as well as accepting cash transferred into his bank account and his company by Bosasa and other people unknown to the State.

The matter was postponed to April 6.
